Shape the future of space infrastructure

‍Backed by Imec.istart, ESA, and the European Commission, we’re growing fast and preparing for our first rocket launch. If you want to shape the future of space infrastructure, you’ll feel right at home at EDGX.

job description

Mechanical Engineer

Key Responsibilities

— Design and develop the mechanical solutions for our products and subsystems so they meet their structural and operational limits.

— Own the geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T) and tolerance stack-up analysis that keeps parts buildable and interfaces robust.

— Plan and run mechanical qualification and verification campaigns (vibration and shock), and support thermal-vacuum testing, to prove your designs against a space environment.

— Operate the environmental test facilities hands-on:setting up and running the equipment, writing test procedures, and designingand building the fixtures the tests need.

— Analyse structural behaviour (e.g. FEA) — covering stiffness and modal response, strength margins of safety, and random-vibration response — to a depth that matches the design’s criticality, and use the results to make and justify your design decisions.

— Optimise your designs for manufacture and assembly (DfMA) in a buildable, well-documented state before handing them over to AIT and production.

— Provide mechanical expertise at the interfaces, including owning the mechanical interface control documents (ICDs), working with electrical, thermal, AIT, and production colleagues to keep the product coherent.

— Keep documentation, CAD models and configuration records accurate, traceable, and review-ready, so the work is transferable across the team.

What you're bringing

Must-haves

— You’re able to design mechanical structures that can withstand extreme conditions —load paths, stiffness, fastening, and tolerance principles.

—Fluency in CAD modelling, manufacturing drawings, and mechanical development workflows.

— Hands-on experience with environmental testing and qualification.

—Proficiency in structural analysis, simulation, and FEA, plus a working knowledge of manufacturability, industrialisation, and DfMA.

— The mindset to work autonomously and take ownership.

Nice-to-haves

— An understanding of space quality standards, operational reliability requirements, and qualification constraints.

— Experience with or exposure to space, defence, or other high-reliability hardware engineering environments is a plus.

— 2+  years of professional experience in mechanical design and development.
